July 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Branford, CT; Greenleaf Biofuels, LLC has selected Pat Munger Construction Company, Inc. to build the largest biodiesel conversion plant in New England. Located at New Haven Terminal, the new facility will annually produce over 10 million gallons of biodiesel, a cleaner burning renewable energy source made from used cooking oil and other types of recycled vegetable oil and animal fats.  The goal is to have the plant converting fuel by the fall of 2012.

"It's the kind of energy efficient, environmentally sound, economic development initiative that we need  more of in New Haven and throughout Connecticut," said Senator Martin Looney, (D) New Haven. “It will contribute to cleaner skies and less reliance on foreign oil, and will add 20 jobs to the local workforce.”

According to Gus Kellogg, Greenleaf Biofuels CEO, "We need a partner we can rely on to help navigate uncharted waters – this being the first biodiesel plant in the area and the largest in New England.  When we began our search for a contractor for the construction of a new building to house our biodiesel plant, Munger’s name quickly rose to the top of our list.  It was clear from multiple professional references that their reputation is the best in the area. Munger provided a strong project management team and the flexibility we needed to make adjustments as we moved through permitting and construction."

After helping Greenleaf Biofuels find the right waterway site for their new facility, Munger's role includes site work and constructing an 8,000 sq. ft. Varco-Pruden pre-engineered steel building along with the infrastructure to support tank farm equipment and utilities.

"Working hard to build a relationship with Greenleaf Biofuels helped us to earn this opportunity" said David DeMaio, Munger president. "Unified teamwork with Greenleaf's process control engineering firm, Jatrodiesel, and Innovative Design Engineering Associates will be key to completing this project on time and at the highest quality".

"I am proud to have Greenleaf putting New Haven and the region at the forefront of biodiesel production, a growing green industry," said Senator Ed Meyer, (D) Branford, Senate chairman of the Environment Committee and a longtime advocate of finding alternative energy sources to reduce fossil fuels.
