June 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Palm Springs, CA, June 27, 2012 -- As founder of such companies as Intervention 911 and Ken Seeley Recovery Communities, Ken Seeley has positioned himself as a pioneer in drug and alcohol addiction treatment and recovery protocols.

Historically, where recovery support systems are limited to including only the addict/alcoholic, and only for a small window of time following treatment, statistics show that the relapse rate remains very high.

“According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), ‘40-60% of people relapse after drug and alcohol treatment’, which is a statistic that is simply unacceptable,” said Ken Seeley. “Changes obviously need to be made and implemented worldwide before we can hope to say that drug and alcohol treatment is truly effective in treating the disease of addiction.”

Seeley supports using a longer-term continuum of care similar to diversion programs required by state medical boards for doctors who require drug and alcohol addiction treatment services. Seeley’s methods recommend that those in recovery retain support services for 5 years following treatment.

“In a care management program with intensive monitoring conducted by Greg Skipper, MD, of the Alabama Physician Health Program, an average of 79% of physicians maintained abstinence after 7 years,” Seeley said.

In addition to extending the length of time for support services, Seeley also employs an all-encompassing approach to ensure long-term sobriety, addressing all aspects of an addict’s life that are affected by addiction. Seeley uses the acronym “HELPS” to describe the Health, Environment, Legal, Personal Finance, and Spiritual areas of life that need to continue to be nurtured and supported.

Seeley has been invited to several speaking engagements and seminars to teach others in the addiction recovery industry about his theories and methods. In April, he spoke at New Jersey’s Alina Lodge 2012 Spring Conference and at The Foundation Recovery Network’s Freedom and Recovery Conference in San Diego, Calif.

Seeley is scheduled to speak at the Drug Diversion and Abuse Summit in Jackson, Miss. on July 18th, 2012, and will be conducting Interventionist Training in Seattle, Wash. August 2-5th, 2012.

ABOUT Ken Seeley Communities
Ken Seeley Communities believes in the achievable goal of life long sobriety. Addiction is a chronic, progressive disease, and even with a one-year treatment program, relapse, jail and even untimely death are still possible. They have created a protocol for long-term sobriety that emphasizes greater accountability on the individual, his/her family and the external support system.
