It was the author's first novel, written early in 2005 following the ski accident that kick-started a career as a successful novelist. Like many first manuscripts, THE DESCENDANT was temporarily shelved when the author was gripped by another idea, this time for a young adult series; THE JOSHUA FILES, which quickly had offers from several UK children's publishers and was eventually published by Scholastic Children's Books, UK. "Once I'd completed THE JOSHUA FILES, I felt it was time to return to the idea from which Josh's story sprang," said M.G. Harris. "I'd been keen to dip a toe in the whole world of self-publishing.
