“FONDARIFIC" is Selected As 2012 Small Business Persons Of The Year By The SBA

May 16, 2012 - PRLog -- “We are excited to learn that another of Savannah’s small business owners were selected
as this year’s U.S. Small Business Administration 2012 Georgia Small Business Person(s) of the Year” stated Lynn Vos, the Area Director for UGA Small Business Development Center in Savannah. “Laura Darnall and Lois Judy, owners of Fondarific, will be joining other SBA award winners from the Savannah area including Paula Deen of The Lady & Sons and Ted Dennard of Savannah Bee Company.

Darnall and Judy, two soccer moms, have launched a ground breaking fondant to the bakery world that has enhanced taste and modeling qualities compared to the past. Fondant is an international cake decorating icing commonly used on wedding cakes, cupcakes, cookies and candy centers.

Darnall and Judy founded Fondarific in 2008 in Darnall’s backyard in a 10 X 14 foot building and within 1 month of launching their product won the Flavor of Georgia Contest in the confections category in Atlanta, Georgia. After their debut in Orlando in July, 08 they moved immediately to a 1500 square foot building, and within several months were occupying 3000 square feet. This past summer in 2011 they renovated and purchased a 10,000 square feet manufacturing facility off of Chatham Parkway.

Laura and Lois met on the soccer field and became fast friends. Laura developed the Candy Clay Dough as a pre-school teacher that was later transformed by her into a fondant, while Lois, a nurse by trade, coined the name “Fondarific” and provided capital and marketing to get their business started.

Darnall and Judy are on the cover of the Small Business Guide of Georgia Trend Magazine where you can read more on their story. They will be presented their award in Atlanta, Georgia on May 16th and will follow to Washington, D.C for Small Business Week with the national award ceremony on May 21, 2012.
