Magnificent Tiffany & Co Sterling and Mixed Metal bachelor coffee pot. This is one of the finest quality Mixed Metals objects we have owned. This piece is museum quality. The whole pot has a matte/butler finish on the surface.

The handle has ivory insulators with a unique pierced design. The cover is hinged and has a fine Jade finial. The sides and cover of the pieces has applied silver, copper and gold. With handle facing right, the first side is decorated with applied silver vines, tendrils and leaves. Also applied a copper gourd, a flower bud in gold and a mokume butterfly. The work on the butterfly is exceptional, the body is copper with 2 applied silver antennae, the wings are mokume with a combination of silver, copper and gold flowing together. The front of the pot with shaped applied spout and a continuation of the applied silver leaf and tendril decoration. The opposite side of the pot is applied with silver leaf and tendril work, a fine dragonfly with silver wings and a copper body. There also is a Ducal crest engraved with the letters GL entwined on top of each other. The fourth side with the handle is applied with several silver leaf and tendril designs. The hinged cover has a applied copper butterfly and applied silver leaf and tendril design. The finial is a beautiful translucent green jade.

The pot is set up on 4 silver feet. Marked on the bottom with a full set of Tiffany makers hallmarks. Marks are TIFFANY & CO ,5048 M 8940, STERLING SILVER, AND, OTHER METALS, 741. The date corresponds to very late in 1877 in the Tiffany book.
In 1878 Tiffany received rave reviews at the Exposition Universal for their silver work including fabulous mixed metal on display in Paris. This piece is related to a creamer we have for sale of the same design with the same Ducal crest but different initials. The creamer has a french import mark. Both pieces would have been sold in the Paris showrooms in 1878.
