May 1, 2012 - PRLog -- The Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy reports that only one-quarter of businesses survive for 15 years after their founding.[1]  So how does a contracting company beat those odds to remain a thriving, growing business a half-century after opening its doors? This year, West Coast Contractors (WCC) (www.westcoastcontractors.com) of Coos Bay, Oregon is celebrating its 50th year in business. With proven demonstrations of innovative, problem-solving capabilities along with WCC’s highly skilled construction experts, the company has attained a stellar record of project completions and has thus set the industry bar exceedingly high.

Founded in 1962, WCC got its start as a provider of crane services on the southern Oregon coast.  By 1976, when the founder’s son and current company president David Kronsteiner joined the business, the company was employing three full-time field operators and one part-time operator. Kronsteiner and his brother Lonnie, who today serves as WCC’s vice president, built on that solid company foundation over the next several decades. They developed a company with a deep expertise in construction across multiple sectors, including marine, heavy, and industrial construction.

West Coast Contractors has also become known for their design of specialty equipment that helps solve complex construction challenges. The company has successfully handled demanding projects for customers that include NOAA, the Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Coast Guard, the State of Oregon, the State of California, Roseburg Forest Products and the Ports of Morrow, Newport and Coos Bay.

“We’re proud that from our modest beginnings WCC has grown over 50 years into a company that our clients depend on for critical, high-profile projects,” said David Kronsteiner. “We appreciate the trust they have shown in us, which has enabled us to become the successful company that we are today. We look forward to working with them on equally complex and exciting projects over the next 50 years.”

A deep respect for the natural environment is integral to all of West Coast Contractors’ work. One recent project, NOAA’s $38 million Marine Operations Center-Pacific in Newport, Oregon, required WCC to perform highly-complex pile-driving and other in-water construction.  Careful scheduling and the use of cutting-edge technology and equipment enabled WCC to successfully complete the work with the least possible impact to the environment. West Coast Contractors also received recognition for its work from numerous organizations including NOAA, AGC, and the Oregon Invasive Species Council, in which the company received the Protect the Northwest Award.

Constructing award-winning structures is not WCC’s only focus, however; the company is also dedicated to building better communities. After 50 years in business, WCC remains committed not only to the area in which it began but also to the values that has helped it succeed over the years—providing customers with exceptional service that results in outstanding projects.
