Autism Speaks Dallas-Fort Worth Kicks Off Its Inaugural 5K Run

April 30, 2012 - PRLog -- The first annual Blast-Off Blue 5k Run benefiting Autism Speaks Dallas-Fort Worth will kick-off this Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Oak Point Park located at 2801 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano Texas 75074.

This event invites both serious runners and families wanting to enjoy an athletic outing to benefit the fight against autism. The scenic route course begins at the Amphitheater in Oak Point Park and proceeds along Rowlett Creek Trail. You may register for Blast-Off Blue by visiting http://events.autismspeaks.org/blastoffblue5k. Registration will be thirty dollars per individual and youth registration for 12 years of age and under will be twenty dollars. Runners are also encouraged to gather support from friends and family to increase their donation for Autism Speaks Dallas-Fort Worth.

“My daughter Alexis and I started the Blast-Off Blue 5K to help Autism Speaks as they try to change the future for families and individuals struggling with Autism like Alexis’ sister, Jackie,” said Vandi Alba, Autism Speaks Dallas-Fort Worth Event Chair.  “With every dollar we raise, Autism Speaks is giving hope to families that there will be: research-based treatment available for their children, educated care givers, and residential and employment options providing them dignity, understanding, and quality of life every human being deserves.  We would love for this to grow to be the largest 5K in North Texas attracting thousands and thousands of runners every year!”

Packet Pick-Up will take place Tuesday, May 1, 2012 through Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. -7:00 p.m. at 1465 West Campbell Road (at Coit), Richardson, Texas 75080.  All registrations placed after Monday April 30, 2012 at noon will pick up their packet on Race Day at the registration tables.

Race Day Registration begins at 7:00 a.m., the 5k run begins promptly at 9:00a.m.
