Follow on Google News | UPDATE: GrassROOTS Power Forward Event Postponed. Partnership With The NY Liberty To ContinueThe “Power Forward” charity concert sponsored by the GrassROOTS Community Foundation (GCF) and the WNBA's New York Liberty has been postponed until further notice.
By: GrassROOTS Community Foundation The “Power Forward” concert, originally scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 26th at Madison Square Garden, is a charity concert that will bring together New York and New Jersey business professionals, city officials, activists, philanthropists, and residents for a night of music and advocacy. “Though it is unfortunate that we have to reschedule our charity event, this is a very exciting time for Madison Square Garden Sports as this is the first time in a while that both the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers are in the playoffs at the same time,” says Dr. Janice Johnson Dias, President and Co-founder of GCF. The partnership between GCF and The New York Liberty will continue and be expanded to include more of the New York Liberty basketball players. “Power Forward” is the result of a strategic partnership between GCF and The New York Liberty who share a common goal of spreading awareness about women’s health and empowerment. Developed during the 40th anniversary of Title IX, “Power Forward” specifically addresses the importance of using women’s sports and women athletes to increase physical activity and reduce obesity among impoverished women and girls. You can continue to show your support of this partnership by purchasing “Power Forward” tickets which includes season tickets for The New York Liberty basketball games and free access to all “Power Forward” events at powerforward.eventbrite.com. Proceeds from “Power Forward” will go towards GCF’s Health, Education, and Literacy (H.E.A.L.) program which educates both parents and children in Newark, Orange and East Orange about the benefits of health and wellness.
