Follow on Google News | New Shoes for Bridge Communities Kids Provided by Share the Spirit FoundationShare the Spirit Foundation provides new shoes from Payless Shoesource in Naperville for homeless children in Bridge Communities' Transitional Housing Program.
By: Bridge Communities Share the Spirit Foundation was formed in 2003 by sisters-in-law Karen Voepel, who lives in Colorado and Tonya Voepel, who lives in Illinois. They both wanted to create an organization that would give back with a sense of immediacy to those in need of a helping hand. Their motto is: “helping to share the burden of providing for those in need,” with the simple idea being, with everyone sharing just a small portion, the burden seems a little bit lighter. Over a year ago, Karen and Tonya met Lynn and Mike Zak of Naperville, and they discussed the idea of Share the Spirit holding a shoe drive in the Aurora area. With the assistance and personal contacts provided by Lynn and Mike, schools and other organizations, including Bridge Communities, were selected for the shoe drive. So far, 24 children from Bridge Communities have signed up to participate in Share the Spirit’s shoe shopping event on April 27.
