I would give it 5 starts, but my iPad does not turn off when close the cover. Its not a huge problem I from what I can tell, my battery does not appear to drain too badly or anything. I think this might be due to how apple designed the new iPads anyway. All and all tho, if you need a great iPad cover, dont buy the worthless smart covers, get this! The price alone justifies the purchase!

I purchased this case for the New iPad after my Toblino case for the iPad 2 was a bit tight. The overall quality of the case is decent, miles better than the smart cover from Apple.
One review mentions the case will not fold flat when opening the cover like a book, this is a minor issue. When you put the iPad in the hard cover, 2 areas snap in and the other 2 areas have a magnetic catch that holds the iPad in place, very good idea. Alot of people are complaining about the magnetic on/off not working. It is not very well known, but Apple has moved the magnet location from the original spot on the iPad 2. I’m sure most case makers already had their products in production and didn’t know about the issue until it was too late. List and reviews about best smart cover for New iPad.

For 25 bucks it’s a good deal. It is not real leather but has a very nice grip and feels secure when holding it. I hope this case holds up with everday wear and tear, it seems like it will but the front cover is sort of flimsy.

Compared to the very limited cases for the new iPad, this is really the best option to date (for the price).

I decided to buy this cover because it looked like what I wanted and based off of the majority of the reviews it appeared to be very good. The only consistent negative thing I read was that the cover magnets did not wake/sleep the iPad which I really didn’t care about, since how hard is it to press a button, but I will address this particular issue later.

I got my Photive cover yesterday and immediately put it on. It is very thin and fits perfectly on my 3rd gen iPad. Best of all it doesn’t obscure/cover any the white on the front of my iPad like many of the other cases I looked at. All of the cutouts align correctly and the cover material has a very nice texture/feel on both the inside and outside. The grooves in the top cover work well to prop the iPad up and all-in-all it appears to be very well made using quality materials. I paid $30 for it which I feel is extremely reasonable, especially when the other covers I was looking at were between $50-60, were not 3rd gen specific, and were most likely much bulkier.

As for the complaints about the magnets not working to wake/sleep: No where does it say in the description that this cover is a “smart cover”. This cover has magnets but they are not intended to wake/sleep the iPad like Apple’s cover, but rather as it says right in the description, “Soft magnets secure the lid closed”. So the magnets are to secure the top lid from flapping open, not to wake/sleep the iPad, in which case from my experience with the cover so far they perform exactly as described and intended. Now I guess they could have designed the magnets to do both but apparently they decided not to. Again, no big deal for me as I am completely capable of pressing a button and am currently in the habit of doing so with my iPhone 4S.

If you are looking for a slim, sleek cover for your 3rd gen iPad then I highly recommend picking this one up!

This would be a 5 star rating except for the same defect everyone else has observed – the magnetic lid doesn’t work. Coming from an original iPad that didn’t have the magnetic sleep feature it’s not the end of the world, it’s still a very nicely made case, particularly for the price. I will keep it, since with the exception of the magnetic sleep feature, it’s a well designed and nicely executed case. And it’s just about the right weight, too.

I was initially a bit hesitant to make this buy after reading that some folks are saying the lid doesn’t automatically wake/sleep the iPad 3. But I took the plunge — and boy, was I glad. This is one of the BEST case I’ve ever bought across all my 3 generations of iPad. I love that it’s ultra-slim and is a fit snug fit. Oh and by the way, closing the cover DOES work in waking/sleep function on my new iPad 3. I’ve had this cover for couple of weeks now and the quality appears top notch.
