Joshua’s Heart Foundation to host annual Global Youth Service Day Event, Sat. April 21 in Miramar

April 11, 2012 - PRLog -- Miramar, FL - Joshua’s Heart Foundation (JHF) is the result of a simple wish, from a courageous then five year old boy called Joshua Williams, to feed the hungry. JHF’s mission is to end world hunger as part of an overall community effort, to increase awareness by creating educational programs for children and youth to break the cycle of poverty, to mobilize support for hunger relief programs and to generate resources for JHF’s operations and other activities that alleviate the needs of children. Since 2005, Joshua’s Heart Foundation has distributed over 380,000 lbs of food to over 8,000 families.

Both Joshua and JHF’s remarkable efforts to end hunger has inspired many, including Andrew Amunategui who collected $255 on his 10th birthday and has donated it all to JHF’s Global Youth Service Day Event.  

This year the annual Global Youth Service Date Event will be held at the Miramar Elementary School located at 6831 SW 26th Street, Miramar, FL 33023, on Saturday, April 21st 2012 from 10:00 am to 1:00pm. Commodity food items such as cheese, eggs, canned and fresh vegetables, cereal, milk, potatoes, rice and poultry will be collected during this event to feed over 100 needy families. Joshua says, “We will be collecting empty backpacks for our food backpack programs on that Saturday also and over 300 backpacks are needed. Anyone interesting in helping can come donate a backpack and or canned foods.”

Additionally, Colin Wanless, one of the Broward County JHF elves, has asked his school, Pine Crest Lower School, to collect food from April 16th to April 19th 2012 as part of  their contribution to this Global Youth Service Day Event.
