TelepresenceRobots.com provides a platform for registered users to rate and review telepresence robots, a forum for users to discuss the robots, a comparison chart for users to view product specifications, and a blog for users to receive the latest industry news.
“We want to be the leading resource for information on telepresence robots,” says Eric Laughlin, founder and CEO. “For me, the most important review of a product has always been directly from a user. Our site will inform organizations who currently use telepresence robots, or who are considering using them, and help them make a more-informed purchase.”
Telepresence robots are essentially a mobile form of video conferencing. They feature a camera, screen, microphone and speakers in addition to wheels for mobility. Users log on to an Internet-based software to remotely control and drive the robots. Companies have been sending telepresence robots in place of employees to attend conferences and office meetings as well as to inspect facilities that are dangerous or difficult to access. Some hospitals, such as Children’s Hospital Boston, are now sending telepresence robots home with patients. Doctors and nurses control these robots from the hospital and use them to monitor patients’ recovery. Telepresence robots are also being seen in schools and universities. Disabled students use them to attend classes, and professors use them to teach classes.
Telepresence robots have always been an interest of Laughlin’s, and TelepresenceRobots.com had been in the works for about a year before it launched today. The serial entrepreneur transformed his interest into a company that provides an important service for telepresence robot users. Laughlin was previously the co-founder and CEO of VoipReview.org, establishing it as a leading VoIP site that helped more than 10 million consumers gather information and purchase business and residential VoIP services. Laughlin sold and left VoipReview.org in 2008. Laughlin has been involved directly or as an angel investor in many Internet startups ranging from reviews to software.
"I founded VoipReview.org under similar circumstances,”
