By: Consortium Media Services, Inc. PODS has donated the use of PODS® containers in preparation for the April 28 children’s literacy event and is asking for the public’s help to fill the containers with books to be distributed to local children and the Lexington Library. On Saturday, April 14, from noon – 4 p.m., and Sunday, April 15, from. noon – 6 p.m., volunteers will collect children’s book donations at the PODS® container in the Lexington WalMart store parking lot, 4051 Nicholasville Road. PODS will then deliver the books to Once Upon a Story, which takes place Saturday, April 28 at Lexington’s Courthouse Plaza, 120 N. Limestone, from 10 a.m.– 2 p.m. In an effort to instill a love of reading and provide access to books for all children, Leadership Lexington, a leadership development program sponsored by Commerce Lexington, Inc., created Once Upon a Story as their 2011 – 2012 leadership class project. In addition to the community book drive, the free, family-friendly event will feature live music, storybook performances, celebrity readers, door prizes and personalized books for every child age 12 and under. “My hope is that our PODS® containers are overflowing with book donations by April 28,” said Ken Kocon, general manager of PODS Lexington. “Our company is proud to help promote childhood literacy. In fact, we’ve decided to give a Kindle Fire to one of our new Facebook Fans this month.” In addition to donating on April 14 – 15, Once Upon a Story supporters can also purchase a tax-deductible book donation by going to www.amazon.com, clicking on “Wish List” in the upper right hand corner and typing in “Once Upon a Story” in the search box.
