Follow on Google News | Community Celebrates Non-Profit 20th Anniversary with ProclamationSuffolk County Treasurer Angie Carpenter presented an honor to Bob Policastro, founder of Angela’s House, while reflecting on the past 20 years, the families, and what’s to come.
By: Nelly Ortiz The Policastros have committed themselves to make up for the voids in the system and help improve the lives of local medically frail children and their families since losing their own daughter, Angela, shortly after her first birthday due to severe brain damage . In 1992, the Policastros founded the non-for-profit Angela’s House. The organization was created to offer families and professionals an agency to call to help medically frail children and their families here on Long Island. Angela’s House celebrated their 20th year, a milestone Bob Policastro is overwhelmed to have accomplished. "It is amazing to think we have been assisting families care for children with special health care needs for 20 years. When my wife and I were faced with the heart wrenching medical trauma that we experience with our daughter Angela we thought there would never be a feeling of peace again. We now feel blessed to have helped thousands of families caring for medically fragile children," Policastro states. The Spring Gala featured cocktail reception, open bar with dinner, and a Chinese auction. Once guests were seated for dinner, Bill Hesselbirg from WRCN radio stood up with his wife to tell their story of their daughter, Kaitlin. The emotional speech was difficult for Hesselbirg, who expressed the great help the foundation provided through their family’s trying time. Afterwards, Policastro spoke about the upcoming goals for the foundation and to honor some of Angela’s House’s shining guardians. Next, Karin Caro of Blu Chip Marketing stood to present Policastro and Angela’s House with a Proclamation from Suffolk County Treasurer, Angie Carpenter, who was unable to attend. “On behalf of Angie Carpenter, Suffolk County Treasurer, I deliver this Proclamation to Bob Policastro for his outstanding service and dedication for 20 years of compassionate care to the children and families of Angela's House,” said Caro. With an enormous waiting list, Angela’s House efforts are ongoing. The organization is working to open their third home.
