Encore performance of Magic and Music at the Mansion April 14th

Take a break from tax preparation and celebrate Earth Day a week early with an encore performance of magic and music at the Thatcher-Young Mansion (35 W 100 S in Logan) on Saturday, April 14th.

April 3, 2012 - PRLog -- The capacity audience at last month's performance of magic and music at the Thatcher-Young Mansion included a birthday party celebration and a family who had driven in from Victor, Idaho (nearly four hours away!). Due to the sold out status of that performance, several potential patrons, including one en route from Tremonton, Utah, were unable to obtain tickets. The good news is that an "encore" performance has been scheduled for Saturday, April 14th at 2 p.m.

Featured at this performance will be German magician/storyteller Punx's  classic fairy tale, "the Heart of Glass", accompanied by Saint-Saëns "The Swan", and "The Music Box of Anna Eva Fay" which was inspired by the famous vaudeville psychic who maintained a friendship with the arch debunker of mediumistic frauds, Harry Houdini. In honor of the  pending tax deadline, two effects featuring money will be performed: Dutch magician Fred Kaps' famous trick with eleven one dollar bills and Robert-Houdin's "Aerial Treasury". Dai Vernon's "Symphony of the Rings" accompanied by Fritz Kreisler's "Tambourin Chinois" and the tale of "Taro-san the Fisherman and the Weeping Willow Tree," accompanied by Miyagi's "Sea of Spring" are also on the program. Musical selections, both solo pieces and performed simultaneously with the magic,  by Bach, Bartok, Beethoven and others will again be part of the afternoon performance.

Tickets are $10 for adults, just $8 for children under 12. As only 56 seats are available, advance purchase is strongly advised to avoid disappointment. Tickets may be purchased online at the Hatch Academy website www.HatchAcademy.com or by calling 435-932-0017.

Performer's biographies:

Richard Hatch holds two graduate degrees in Physics from Yale University, but finds it easier apparently to violate the laws of nature than to discover them. A childhood interest in magic became a lifelong obsession after he met and was encouraged by the German magician Fredo Raxon in 1970. A full time professional “deceptionist” since 1983, Richard moved with his wife, violinist Rosemary Kimura, to Houston, Texas in 1985, shortly after winning first place in the annual New England Close Up Magic Competition in Worcester, Massachusetts. For several years he honed his craft entertaining the guests as one of the house magicians at Houston's Magic Island Nightclub before devoting himself exclusively to private and corporate work, traveling internationally on behalf of his clients. Richard and his wife Rosemary moved to Cache Valley in October 2010 and opened the Hatch Academy of Magic and Music in Logan's historic 1878 Thatcher-Young Mansion in January 2011.

Rosemary Kimura Hatch received her Masters degree from Yale School of Music and her Bachelors Degree with Performer’s Certificate from Eastman School of Music. She has studied Chamber Music with the Fine Arts, Tokyo and Cleveland Quartets and with Raphael Hillyer. She has performed with the New Haven, Hartford, San Antonio and Houston Symphonies and with the Houston Grand Opera. Her principle private instructors have been Sergiu Luca, Syoko Aki, Peter Salaff, Charles Castleman and Martha Katz. As a teacher herself she has been on the faculty of Music Schools in New Haven, Milwaukee and Houston. She currently teaches privately at the Hatch Academy of Magic and Music in Logan and at Interlochen Summer Arts Camp in Michigan. She and Richard Hatch were married in 1982 and have two children, Catherine and Jonathan.

Jonathan Hatch has studied piano with Paul Krystofiak at St. Thomas University in Houston, Texas and with Sophia Gilmson at the University of Texas in Austin. He is currently pursuing studies to become a Veterinary Technician. In his spare time, he volunteers at the Cache Valley Humane Society.
