Consumer data specialists improve data storage facility

Tracesmart has upgraded its Woking based data centre using the latest in virtualisation technology to deliver a cutting edge solution to meet its growing requirements. Tracesmart has chosen Dell as its technology partner of choice and has installed a solution using PowerEdge PE710 servers and Dell Equallogic XV6000 SANs. The environment is entirely virtualised using VMWare vSphere 5.

The Equallogic solution was chosen as it offers superior performance, reliability and scalability. The ability to mix different types of storage, SSD, SAS and SATA allows an Equallogic solution to provide a single storage platform that is self-managed by the Equallogic software. VMWare vSphere 5 provides a number of powerful management features such as the ability to move virtual machines from one host to another and one storage area to another whilst the machine is turned on. This allows Tracesmart to provide a very reliable service as hardware maintenance and problems can be resolved without any loss of service.

Established by leading tracing experts, Tracesmart provides online solutions to help businesses trace people, reunite clients with their customers, conduct ID checks and perform high volume data cleansing. Tracesmart has also opted for a virtual server backup system using Veeam. This allows the business to hold complete daily backups of all virtual machines for 6 months. Veeam permits a server backup to be initiated directly from the backup disk, which allows a faster recovery and the ability to recover individual files and database records.

The upgrade follows a similar improvement a year ago to the Newport data centre, which means the entire Tracesmart network is virtualised and fully redundant across two data centres. Under normal operating conditions both data centres are used to provide an improved performance. If a fault or network failure occurs at one of the data centres all of the traffic is automatically transferred to the other within two minutes.
