Follow on Google News | Strawberry Hill Fiddlers at The Bardavon ~ 3/18POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, March 5, 2012 – Strawberry Hill Fiddlers will present “Jamming for Scotland,” a traditional music concert featuring the Fiddlers as well as special guests Jay Ungar and Molly Mason.
By: Stringendo, Inc. Also featured in the concert will be more than sixty young fiddlers who are a part of the Strawberry Hill Fiddlers administered by Stringendo, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit community music school. The fiddling program enables young string players to experience performance outside of their classical orchestral training, such as singing, dancing, learning by ear, and improvising. Students in the Strawberry Hill Fiddlers program attend Arlington, Red Hook, Rhinebeck, Wappingers, Kingston, Hyde Park, Spackenkill, Millbrook, Dutchess Day, Holy Trinity, Walkill, Pine Plains, and Poughkeepsie Day schools. The concert will feature Scottish, Swedish, Canadian, bluegrass, Appalachian, New England, Texas swing, Venezuelan and Mariachi music. Songs, improvisation, and choreography will add to the audience’s pleasure. Some of these tunes can be heard on Dancing on the Air, Jay Ungar and Molly Mason’s radio show on WAMC on March 14th at 8:06pm. The Strawberry Hill Fiddlers will travel to UK at the end of June to share music and culture with Scottish and English fiddle groups. They will participate in music performances and workshops, traditional Ceilidh dancing, and sightseeing.
