“This year was a good year,” owner of the Glass Doctor of the Inland Empire franchise Matt Nicklaus said.
On Thanksgiving Day, Nicklaus took his children and Boy Scout Troop (Nicklaus is Scoutmaster of Troop 161) to prepare 800 meals and deliver 15 of those meals, in coordination with the senior center.
The troop, made up of 18 boys age 12 to 17, also collected the 692 items for the homeless shelter through a series of scavenger hunts.
“The boys had a blast,” Nicklaus said. “We even got 4 turkeys by just knocking on people’s doors.”
Perhaps most impressively, the shop collected 3,000 pounds of potatoes, 600 cans of green beans, 400 boxes of stuffing, several dozen frozen turkeys and other items for Christmas with the help of the Salvation Army and local churches. Those items created approximately 1,200 Christmas dinners.
“Our techs handout flyers to all of our customers so that if they cannot make a donation at the time of service they can bring it the drop-off in time for Christmas meal prep,” Nicklaus said. “Our shop is a collection site. It has gotten large enough that the Salvation Army uses a storage center at the fairgrounds so that everything will fit.”
