March 1, 2012 - PRLog -- BIG ARTS Community Chorus Director Steve Cramer invites all to the Chorus Concert at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 22.

For the concert, the Community Chorus is taking a fresh look at old standards, singing favorites from Verdi to Gershwin to Manhattan Transfer. The 80-voice chorus will be accompanied by musicians hailing from New York City and locals from Island Jazz. They will perform classical, jazz, gospel, and folk music. The concert will present the premier performance of an original arrangement of Shenandoah, arranged by Greg Brown, commissioned by Dick and Judy Brown.

The medley of tunes by Music of George and Ira Gershwin, "A Gershwin Portrait," is from an arrangement by Mac Huff which had been out of print, the Chorus requested a reprint from the publishers, with the jazz band charts.

The Chorus will be accompanied by New York City musicians Mike Cottone  http://www.mikecottone.com/ (trumpet), and Lucas Pino http://www.lucaspino.com/ (tenor saxophone), and local musicians Ellen Whitten (piano), Tom Cooley (drum and percussion), and Bill Johns (bass and special percussion). Other musicians will play guitar, harmonica, and harp.
