Feb. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- A Top 10 Local Album of 2011 – “Her sparkling 2011 release is illuminated by smart wordplay and arrangements, bright, warm production and a voice that recalls Natalie Merchant crossed with the Indigo Girls.” – Keith Spera, The Times Picayune (New Orleans)

“[Kelcy Mae exists] in Lilith Fair’s long shadow, evidenced by her good musical taste and emphasis on voice and words. These are solid ground for Kelcy, whose voice is warm and distinctive, and whose lyrics are intelligent without being brainy…a reason to keep paying attention to Kelcy Mae.”
- Offbeat Magazine (New Orleans)

Emerging indie musician, Kelcy Mae (New Orleans) is following up tours of the Midwest and Southeast USA with a brief Southwest tour across Louisiana and Texas. Kelcy Mae is touring in support of her new album, Pennies in Hand, recently named one of the Top 10 New Orleans albums of 2011. She’ll be performing as a duo with a supporting vocalist, also her banjo & mandolin player.

BIO: On the wings of soaring vocal and songwriting abilities, accompanied by a remarkable lineup of New Orleans instrumentalists, and with the help of a dedicated fan base, Kelcy Mae's second album, Pennies in Hand, has arrived in stores, online and over the airwaves this year. Already heralded by the New Orleans Times Picayune, Offbeat Magazine, The Shreveport Times and more, Kelcy Mae shines in this beautifully written and produced follow-up to her 2007 debut album, The Times Compiled.

Combining traditional southern bluegrass and country instrumentation with an acoustic independent rock sound, she hits a pitch perfect balance of alt-folk/alt-country that follows in the tradition of musical greats like Ani Difranco, Natalie Merchant or Casey Chambers. One of her great strengths as an artist lies in her subtlety -- beautifully-nuanced lyrics and arrangements which reflect that very notion of human emotions. She leaves simplistic odes to love or lust or heartbreak to other artists and instead dwells in the fascinating space of sudden realizations and complicated reactions. A native of Shreveport, LA, Kelcy Mae lives and regularly plays in New Orleans, where she recently earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of New Orleans.
