Recently elected at-large Director of Digital Signage Federation, Angela Tang shares her background and vision for the digital signage industry.
Angela is currently the marketing manager for AOpen America and has worked closely with manufacturers, distributors, system builders and VARS in the digital signage industry in the past decade. Many AOpen digital signage offerings were created through her innovation and dedication.
AOpen’s focus is to simplify the digital signage application deployment. Over the past 5 years, AOpen has brought together and partnered with solution providers and created a strong network of companies to offer total solutions. With the help of alliance partner expertise and experience of hardware, software and content creation, along with AOpen’s industry know-how, AOpen is able to provide complete end-to-end solutions.
What is your vision for the digital signage industry?
Angela Tang: I would like to help make an interactive connected technology world a reality in the near future. This world includes connected intelligent devices that understand your needs and makes your daily tasks easier. Imagine walking into a store and the display instantly welcomes you by name. It then directs you to the products you browsed the previous night at home. Once you walk towards your item, and promotions can be sent directly to your smartphone to be used upon checkout. With that item in your cart, you are shown complimentary products offerings on a display nearby, as well as where to find them in the store. We are starting to see some of these solutions emerge, but they are not working in conjunction with each other as a complete vertical platform. In today’s market, the digital signage industry is scattered where everyone is doing their own customizations and every application is different. The process is long and cumbersome. With industry standardization, the digital signage implementation process will become more simplified.
What are you trying to achieve during your term at DSF?
Angela Tang: I would like to work towards creating industry standards for digital signage. The standardization of digital signage applications will help them become modularized into a complete platform. Through this modularization, the industry can develop a complete platform offering for different verticals, and with DSF’s network of professionals, we could engage more educational opportunities in the industry to increase the understanding of having applied computing systems versus traditional systems. As well as providing insight on the benefits of having a complete modularized platform. I would like to see this process started as board member at the DSF.
The DSF mission is to support and promote the common business interests of the world-wide digital signage, interactive technologies and the digital out-of-home network industries. The DSF is a not-for-profit independent voice of the digital signage industry reflecting the diversity of its membership. It promotes professional recognition through certifications, continuing education, conferences, publications, and presentations offered by the DSF and affiliate groups. It provides government lobbying to leverage the collective strength of members and represent their interests at the higher levels of government and the community. The DSF provides leadership and networking opportunities focused on building a strong foundation for the advancement of the digital signage industry.
