Feb. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- NEW  YORK, New York – On Saturday, February 4, the Non-Profit Industry Council of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce New York (NGLCCNY) will present a special leadership retreat focused on the future of New York City’s social services, advocacy and community-based corporations.

The summit will be held at The Standard New York in the Meatpacking District overlooking the High Line Park. With the Hudson River as backdrop, a select group of influential current and past board members from area non-profits will begin to speculate, over a half-day of briefings and working group sessions, a new vision for organizations serving the LGBT and HIV/AIDS communities. Facilitated by Jennifer Brown, the board leaders will explore, through inspired discussion and lively debate, provocative questions such as:

   •   What are the greatest opportunities and weaknesses for non-profits serving the LGBT community today?
   •   Is it time to leave behind the old school non-profit and create a modern-day social enterprise?
   •   How does this new enterprise look?

“New York non-profits have valiantly addressed LGBT concerns from HIV/AIDS to marriage equality to the needs of our youth and elders,” said NGLCCNY President and co-founder Richard Oceguera. “The purpose of this summit is to bring organizations together in the spirit of collaboration to create new possibilities and to explore innovative models for serving our community in the twenty-first century.”

A short walk from the Stonewall Inn, the first home of the gay rights movement, the Standard New York is providing its customary unsurpassed hospitality, world-class business conference capabilities, and luncheon and after-summit activities for retreat participants. Several NGLCCNY members have also joined forces to produce this event, including Kaye Scholer LLP; Jennifer Brown Consulting; and Liberty & Church Communication Design.

“Since the Stonewall riots erupted almost four decades ago, New York City’s LGBT organizations have inspired millions of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people around the world to take action that leads to equality,” said NGLCCNY co-founder Thomas Koveleskie. “This summit is a time to reflect upon what is working and what is not in our community organizations – and to map out a new trajectory.”
