Jan. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Plainview, NY - Yamaha has introduced a new line-up of student band instruments that will be offered through Hyson Music by this Spring, 2012! We’d like to take a few moments to educate parents and educators alike on the new features of these instruments.

First we have the Yamaha YCL-255 Bb Clarinet, currently known as the YCL-250. The de facto standard of student clarinets hasn’t changed much with the new model number. The only changes are a ‘ringless’ bell and a new adjustable thumb-hook with a loop for neck straps.

Next is the Yamaha YAS-26 Alto Saxophone, currently known as the YAS-23. This new version brings a few notable improvements to an instrument that is already considered the best by many. The new improvements include an updated and strengthened intermediate-style neck receiver for increased durability. The neck screw itself was beefed up to avoid the stripping that so often occurs over the years on most saxes. The most significant change is an enhanced cage and improved mechanical connection from low B to C# to prevent leaks from the low C#. Essentially, this new model will be more durable than the current YAS-23.

The Yamaha YTR-2335 trumpet is being replaced by a new Yamaha YTR-2330. While very similar to its predecessor, there are a few changes worth noting. Yamaha has removed the tuning slide brace to create a more resonant sound. Our first thought was that this will surely decrease the durability of the instrument, but the Yamaha engineers ensured us that the new 3-piece tuning slide system more than compensates for the lack of the brace. It will also create a trumpet that is more easily repaired, which is common with student owned instruments that are so often subject to abuse in the band room!

The Yamaha YFL-221 flute will remain unchanged and will retain the current model number, as will the YSL-354 trombone.
