Jan. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Earlier this month, over 115,000 gallons spilled from a ruptured fuel pipeline in Wellington, Ohio.  A football field-sized area was contaminated with toxic chemicals that included toluene, ethylbenzene and benzene.

The spill caused the evacuation of numerous residents in the area as emergency spill responders and public health officials converged on the spill.  According to an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official, the amount of chemicals measured in the air was nearly 11 times what is considered a safe rate.

Unfortunately, spills like this occur regularly in our industrialized economy.  Fortunately, emergency spill responders are there to quickly and effectively deal with these potentially catastrophic environmental and human health situations.

To help industry deal with these spills a new program was recently introduced by Legends Environmental Insurance Services, LLC.  In November of 2011, Legends introduced SpillConnect.  SpillConnect provides professional resources to companies who encounter a spill and require an emergency response from companies that have the expertise and resources to handle these types of situations.

“By having emergency spill professionals quickly accessible through SpillConnect, companies can save money by gaining immediate access to professionals across the U.S. and Canada that can handle these spills,” stated Brian Mcfarland, Vice President at Legends.  “Emergency spill responders who have completed their complimentary online registration with SpillConnect are notified when spills occur and can make their services accessible to those companies that require fast and efficient assistance.  The program has been hugely successful in its first quarter and continues to grow in popularity with emergency spill responders and those requiring their services,” he continued.

Emergency spill responders can register at no charge to begin receiving the benefits offered by SpillConnect by completing a short registration form at http://legends.spillcenter.net.
