Jan. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- The Dylan Thomas Centre’s new programme of events has been released, featuring a varied mixture of literature, drama and music.

There’s a story that Dylan Thomas’ father recited Shakespeare to his young son before he could speak. It is now estimated that Dylan is the second most quoted writer after Shakespeare, so it’s fitting that in April we launch a new annual celebration of the Bard of Avon with a performance of Fluellen’s Happy Birthday, Mr Shakespeare.

Other drama features work by Tom Stoppard, Harold Pinter and Joe Orton.

Delyth Jenkins, a leading exponent of the Celtic harp, launches her new solo album, Llais. Llais features original music that Delyth wrote for Fluellen Theatre Company  productions, including Under Milk Wood, Doctor and the Devils and Cymbeline, as well as her interpretations of traditional Welsh melodies.

Elsewhere, we’re proud to launch the debut collection from Swansea’s Sarah Coles, a graduate of Swansea University’s highly successful MA in Creative Writing programme, and Jon Gower’s wide-ranging book of short stories.

Deryn Rees-Jones, Clare Pollard and Lynne Rees are among the headliners for Poets in the Bookshop, and our successful series of free Science Café talks continues with discussions on sleep and dreaming, the Fermi Paradox and astrobiology.

The first event is the Science Café on Wednesday, 18 January at 7.30pm when Professor Mark Blagrove of Swansea Unviersity discusses ‘The science of sleep and dreaming’. Entry is free.

Full details of all events can be found at http://www.dylanthomas.com or by contacting the Dylan Thomas Centre on 01792 463980.
