PAC Unveils First Ever Bluetooth SWI Module that Interfaces with Portable Devices, Not the Radio

CES Innovations Award Winning Steering Wheel Interface Module Offers Users Playback Control of Nearly Any Smartphone or Tablet, No Matter how The Device is Connected to the Vehicle’s Radio

Jan. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Las Vegas, NV – The Pacific Accessory Corporation® (PAC) is proud to announce that it has been named an International CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for the SWI-BT, the first steering wheel control module that is designed to interact with the portable electronic device directly, as opposed to an aftermarket radio. Combining the extensive steering wheel control database that PAC has built into their patented SWC products, and powerful CSR Bluetooth connectivity, the SWI-BT is able to connect most any Bluetooth® equipped device, with virtually any car featuring steering wheel controls. PAC invites dealers, installers, expediters and others to drop by booth 809 (LVCC, North Hall) to learn more.

The SWI-BT (MSRP $99.95) was designed as a direct response to the popularity of streaming music from a portable device through a vehicle’s factory or aftermarket radio.  This new SWI device basically allows the user to repurpose their factory steering wheel controls, and add the ability to control playback functions such as play, pause, next, and previous track without touching their device. With the SWI-BT, all the user needs to do is press the “SEEK up” or “next track” button and the interface will send the Bluetooth AVRCP commands to the portable device. This drastically reduces driver distraction and leads to overall safer driving.

Compatible with A2DP streaming interfaces, FM modulator solutions, or Aux audio input interfaces, the SWI-BT simplifies the users experience by providing the most popular commands literally at the fingertips of the user. Because the SWI-BT uses Bluetooth connectivity for control as opposed to a proprietary connector, the interface not only works with virtually all tablets and smartphones on the market, but will likely be compatible with the next generations of these devices as well. Additionally, all the original SWC functions are retained, so the user does not need to sacrifice any functions to add these Bluetooth controls.

The PAC SWI-BT will be officially unveiled alongside the company’s other new OEM integration solutions at the 2012 International CES show in January. Additionally, the SWI-BT will be displayed alongside other Innovations Award winners during the show. Innovations Award winning products are currently featured on www.CESweb.org/Innovations.

The prestigious Innovations Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow.
