Follow on Google News | Kamstrup Takes Next Smart Grid StepsNew analysis and surveillance features add more intelligence to the Smart Grid. Two new features contribute to more visibility in the grid and to further elimination of the human factor in grid operation and supply service.
By: Kamstrup A/S Higher Level of Information from the Grid Real time data from Smart Grid components like Smart Meters and appliances used for substation monitoring are the Smart Grid’s raw material – the very basis that enables the grid to work smartly. Data from both Kamstrup’s Smart Meters and from the substation monitoring tool, UtiliKeeper, are now available within Kamstrup's Meter Data Management system providing a better quality of data and a higher information level from the grid. Smart Grid product manager at Kamstrup, Henrik Bæk Jørgensen, emphasizes the important step of making vital information readily available for grid operators: “The new extensions of the EMS10 will raise the information level in the operating system facilitating operational decisions and automatic responses to events. The Analysis Logger and the UtiliKeeper are in each their way important building blocks in the Smart Grid, now they have become integrated in Kamstrup’s popular Meter Data Management system.” Analysis Logger The EMS10 Analysis Logger was developed in order to handle new and future Smart Grid demands. In short it helps utilities making deeper analyses of their distribution grid based on the comprehensive set of data provided by the Smart Meters. The logger analyses a customized profile of registers down to 5 minutes values, e.g. of detailed consumption data, voltage and current for each phase and pulse input. The much deeper analysis of actual metering points makes it possible to activate targeted trouble shooting. Substation Monitoring UtiliKeeper is a Kamstrup Smart Grid component that provides real-time monitoring of substations in a self-contained “everything in one box”-solution. UtiliKeeper collects data down to every millisecond from several points in network substations, providing a complete picture of events like partial discharge, short circuits, ground fault, humidity and even open doors. Using push technology, the UtiliKeeper transmits data to multiple recipients as events dictate. The new version of Kamstrup’s EMS10 MDM system completely integrates the information coming from UtiliKeeper into the utility’s Smart Grid environment and makes it possible for network operators to access UtiliKeeper information in close to real-time from the EMS10 user interface. UtiliKeeper ensures that attention can be paid to important events in due time. An additional advantage is a power loss analysis feature making it possible to compare the power delivered from the substation and used by the consumers connected to the feeder line and hereby identify power losses.
