Nov. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Wrinkle creams can nourish and protect the face against the damage associated with the ageing process. Many wrinkle creams include vitamins as ingredients. These vitamins can have various effects on the skin, and some are more effective than others at preventing wrinkles from forming and getting rid of lines that have already been created.

Vitamin A is very effective at eliminating wrinkles. Derivatives of vitamin A are used in prescription wrinkle medications and, in milder forms, in non-prescription creams. Retinols, as these derivatives are often known, can stimulate the growth and regeneration of skin cells and the removal of the upper layers of the skin, revealing the soft, smooth skin underneath. Vitamin A derivatives can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation, however, so it will need to be protected against the sun.

Vitamin C is another common vitamin in wrinkle creams. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, and it also plays an important role in the production of collagen. Collagen is a component of the connective tissue that keeps the skin smooth and supple. Vitamin C can also help to remove the drier layers of skin from the surface, which leaves behind smoother, younger layers of skin cells. Creams containing vitamin C should always be used by their expiry date since vitamin C is an unstable chemical that will be oxidized, making it useless for skincare. If a white or uncolored vitamin C cream becomes discolored, this indicates that the vitamin C has been oxidized.

Vitamin E is another antioxidant that may be used in wrinkle creams. Like other antioxidants in these creams, it is believed to protect the skin against the damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin E is often used in wrinkle creams that are designed to soften and moisturize the skin.

B vitamins may also be used in wrinkle creams, particularly vitamins B5 and B3. Vitamin B5 is a gentle moisturizer. It is considered milder than vitamin E and capable to smoothing and moisturizing the skin. Vitamin B3, which is also known as niacin, can also help the skin to retain moisture, but it also helps to exfoliate the skin, revealing the smoother, younger skin underneath.

Vitamins in wrinkle creams can be used as antioxidants, moisturizers and for exfoliation. They can help to keep the skin looking young and healthy, although their efficacy varies a great deal. Many people feel that vitamin E has only a very limited effect on the appearance of the skin, but the derivatives of vitamin A that are used in wrinkle creams are among the most effective ingredients for use against wrinkles.
