Patrick D. McCoy returns to hometown to present recital of Christmas Music at Covenant Presbyterian

Nov. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- The Petersburg native will return for the holidays to present a special  voice recital of sacred music for Christmas, accompanied by organist Mattie L. Wilkerson.  Currently, McCoy lives in Washington, D. C. where he is active as a performing arts journalist, performer and church musician.  He recently celebrated his fifth year as Minister of Music at Takoma Park Baptist Church, where he is at the helm of all church choirs and accompany the services each week on the 1977 M. P. Moller pipe organ.

"It is always a wonderful feeling to come back home, especially to share in a special program of music at Covenant, where I served as Director of Music and Organist for six years.  That was a very special time and many beautiful people." McCoy said.

Featured on the program will be vocal sacred gems of the season by Bach, Handel and Franck, alongside Christmas carols and spirtiuals.

The church is located at 201 Walnut Blvd. Petersburg, Virginia 23805.

This concert is free, but an offering will be taken to support Patrick's first professional lecture presentation n February 2012 at the University of California at Irvine.  McCoy has been invited by the founder of the African-American Art Song Alliance, Dr. Darryl Taylor to participate in this landmark event.
