Nov. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Raleigh, N.C. – Community Workforce Solutions, Inc. (CWS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities or other barriers to employment, held its first annual Green Fest on October 13, 2011.  The goal of the Green Fest was to educate the individuals we support, their family members, referral sources, and CWS staff on how the choices we make impact our bodies, the environment and those around us.  The theme was “Growing Towards a Healthy Lifestyle” and there were informational sessions, booths, and health demonstrations to provide the attendees with the opportunity to speak with various professionals about how to keep ourselves and our environment healthy. At the Green Fest, locally made pottery coffee mugs were sold to add to our Green Team efforts, Tom Rhodes from NCDENR discussed vermiposting, CWS staff and participants developed a recycling game, there were presenters who discussed healthy eating/exercise (including seated yoga), and healthy food was served.

“We were quite happy with the turn out for our first annual Green Fest”, said Julie Griffin , Vocational Services  Director.  “The Green Team is already planning next year’s Green Fest.  We hope to reach out to more individuals in our community and establish ourselves as a local agency focusing on green initiatives.”

CWS’s Green Team is dedicated to expanding the skill set of CWS’s staff and participants by raising awareness of their impact on the environment in the home, workplace and the community.  The Green Team creates opportunities for all to learn specific ways to reduce their carbon footprint through conservation, recycling, and gardening.  This program relies on donations and grants.  Some of donors and contributors for the 2011 Green Fest  include:  Whole Foods, Kroger, Larry’s Beans, Wal-Mart #5292, Courtney Pernell, Thom Rhodes with NCDENR, Cindy Ward, Body Mind and Soul Nutrition, Jim and Tricia Bell at Under the Oaks Pottery, and Tina Granville Pottery.
