Nov. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Thirty years after the mysterious death of Natalie Wood off the coast of Santa Catalina Island the L.A. Angeles County Sheriffs Department has announced that they will be reopening the case pending some new developments.  Natalie Wood, who was known for her performances in “West Side Story” and “Rebel Without a Cause,” drowned at age 43 while yachting off the coast of Catalina Island on November 29, 1981. Her death was initially deemed an accident but has since fueled much speculation.

Wood and her husband Robert Wagner, whom she had just finished marrying for the second time where celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday on their yacht the the “Splendour” with fellow actor Christopher Walken and others. On the night of Saturday, Nov. 28 the three had dinner at a dockside resturaunt and afterward returned to the yacth for drinks. An arguement had erupped between Wagner and Walken over “how much of one's personal life should be sacrificed in pursuit of one's career and art” said Wagner in a 2008 interview with The Times. The captain, Dennis Davern, co-wrote the book “Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour” last year. In the book he described bitter arguments aboard the boat that weekend.

Wood had stepped away during the arguement and alegedly made her way to the master cabin. Once the two men had finished arguing and said goodnight, Wagner didnt find his wife in the cabin. Wagner assumed his wife had taken a smaller vessel as she had done in previous occasions or went to go tie up a loose dinghy. Wood's body was discovered about 8 a.m. Sunday by authorities about a mile away from the yacht. “Recently, Sheriff's Homicide Investigators were contacted by persons who stated they had additional information about the Natalie Wood Wagner drowning,” said an LASD statement.

In a statement to the media Wagner's spokesman, Alan Nierob, said Robert Wagner “trusts they will evaluate whether any new information relating to the death of Natalie Wood Wagner is valid, and that it comes from a credible source or sources other than those simply trying to profit from the 30 year anniversary of her tragic death.”
