Local Gym & Early Learning Coalition Collaborate, Host Santa Reading Event & Book Collection

Nov. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- The Omni Club of Fort Myers is partnering with the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida (ELC) to host a book collection and Santa reading event on Saturday, December 17th from 10 a.m. until noon. All books collected will go to local childcare centers participating in ELC’s Literacy Buddies Program.

The Omni Club and ELC aspire to collect 150 new or gently used books for three and four year olds (hard covers preferred). All guests will have the chance to register that day to become a Literacy Buddy too. There will also be an opportunity to donate new and unwrapped gifts for Toys for Tots.

ABOUT THE LITERACY BUDDIES PROGRAM
In existence for four years, the purpose of Literacy Buddies is to help young, pre-elementary school aged children develop and excel in literacy. The purpose is to teach children about correspondence, communication and instill appreciation of reading. Literacy Buddies has direct, measurable results. In nearly every case the child’s communication skills are positively impacted and visible via letters and verbal communication changes.
