Brooklyn, NY Sisters Have A Flair For Music And Comedy

Oct. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Brooklyn, NY residents and real life sisters, Lisa and Lori Brigantino are not your usual siblings.  While many adult siblings do not get to see their beloved brothers or sisters often due to distance – or do not have close relationships with their siblings, the Brigantino sisters spend many hours a week together creating music and comedy as they regularly did when they were children.  These days they can often be found together in either of their Park Slope, Brooklyn homes writing, practicing, doing publicity or working out business plans for their various creative exploits.

Lisa is a trained composer and singer/songwriter and writes for film, TV and other creative projects and was an original member of the all girl Led Zeppelin tribute band, Lez Zeppelin.  When Lisa left the band to get back to working on her original material and released her latest critically-acclaimed solo CD “Wonder Wheel” in 2010, Lori sang on the album and also continues to perform with Lisa as they tour in support of the album.  This past February, they showcased Lisa’s original songs at Folk Alliance International in Memphis, TN and followed up with a show in Nashville, TN.  April found the Brigantinos doing a short tour of NY state and Massachusetts and in July, they were a featured act at The Pleasantville Music Festival. Most recently they’ve performed shows in New York City and Philadelphia.

Lori is a trained musician who has performed musically with her sister throughout her life and she is also a trained actor with NYC credits including “The Last Nickel” at The NYC International Fringe Festival, “Trials & Fibs” Off Broadway at The Soho Playhouse and several Off-Off Broadway plays and independent films.  Lori is also a writer who has dabbled with several play and screenplay ideas and always wanted to write her own live show and one day the characters Vickie & Nickie were born!  When Lori approached Lisa with the sketch idea of doing a musical-comedy act a few years ago about a Minnesota mom sister duo, Lisa could only say “yes!”  The sisters have developed the characters and show into something that now has a life of its own.

The Brigantino’s wacky musical-comedy act is called “The Vickie & Nickie Show” which features the real life native New Yorker sisters as Vickie & Nickie, the multi-instrumental singing housewife sister duo from Minnesota who manage to take time out from their busy family lives to entertain at local nursing homes, the prison circuit, state fairs and charity balls.  The act is completely self-contained where the sisters play up to 10 different instruments during the show as they intertwine wacky original tunes and hilarious pop song interpretations with family stories, audience participation and improv.  

“The Vickie & Nickie Show” has been very successful and has garnered quite a following with several full length shows to date at notable NYC venues including Don’t Tell Mama, Upstairs at Rose’s Turn and The Duplex as well as Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta, NY.  Appearances at well known NYC variety show and comedy clubs include: Sundays at Seven Comedy Night at the Irish Arts Center, Kim Smith’s Vauxhall Kabarett at Vlada, Danny Leary’s Variety Extravaganza at Comix, The Talent Show Brand Variety Show at The Gershwin Hotel, Listen To This at The 92nd St. Y/Tribeca, Becky Donohue and Danny Leary’s The Cocktail Show at Don’t Tell Mama, and The Rocha Dance Theatre’s Glamour Bash at Galapagos in DUMBO.

In December, the Brigantino sisters will be doing two performances of their new holiday show “Vickie & Nickie’s Holiday Sleigh Ride!” presented by Dixon Place in their state of the art main stage theatre in New York City.  Show dates are Saturday, December 3rd and 10th at 9:30pm.
