This winter event enhances ACBC's commitment to its mission in providing information to its members and promoting business comfort to Philadelphia and the State of Pennsylvania. ACBC President Dr. Azuka Anyiam added that the theme of the 2011 Winter Award captures the fundamental objectives of the Council in driving economic development and expanding access to global markets. Awards will be presented in four major categories including the ACBC Award for Innovation, Excellence, Leadership and Entrepreneurship. The event will kick off with a Business Round Table Discussion on Trade and Investment (no cost) between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Froelich Rainey Hall, Penn Museum 3260 South Street, Philadelphia PA 19104. This will be followed by a VIP reception for special guests, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hilton Hotel. The Winter Award Dinner will begin from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the evening will close with an after dinner party, from 10 p.m. to midnight at City Avenue Hilton Hotel Philadelphia, 4200 City Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19131. Several ambassadors from Africa and the Caribbean will be in attendance. Roxanne Mankin Cason, CEO of the Cason Family Foundation, and President of Save the Children Foundation will be the keynote speaker. Over the last 25 years, she has devoted herself to the empowerment of women and girls worldwide. Her work has focused on spearheading girls’ education projects, including SUPER (Save University Partnership for Education Research), a collaboration between Save the Children’s Global Education Group and major universities to advance research. Fox News 29 Anchor Sheinelle Jones will be the Master of Ceremony. Chairperson Annette Allison said the association is grateful to the Mayor’s Commission for African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs, The City of Philadelphia Commerce Department, The State of Pennsylvania Commerce Department, Councilwoman Jannie L. This event will recognize the great achievements of members of the fast growing population of African and Caribbean immigrants in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. According to recent estimates, the city and region are the homes of some 80,000 immigrants from more than 35 countries in Africa, the Caribbean and African-Latinos. The event’s goals are to promote international trade and investments between Africa, the Caribbean and the Greater Philadelphia region; propagate the perspectives of African and Caribbean entrepreneurs with respect to global policies that affect their ability to conduct business; organize global & local training workshops and events as well as engage city, state, and federal government officials, through partnership and advocacy, to make available necessary infrastructures for the development and maintenance of viable African and Caribbean business communities.
