Fugro Aperio seminars highlight modern survey techniques for asset construction and maintenance

Fugro Aperio has announced a series of free technical seminars for construction professionals highlighting modern approaches to building surveys and site investigations.

Oct. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- The Cambridge-based survey specialist, part of the global Fugro group, will be running four half-day seminars in December each exploring different areas of application. Individual seminar themes include heritage, rail, construction material testing, and engineering geophysics for ground investigations.

Presented by Fugro specialists in each of the focus areas, the seminars are aimed at engineers and also developers, operators and owners of built assets and infrastructure.

As well as being updated on the very latest non-destructive and geophysical investigation technology, delegates will learn how a better understanding of the subsurface can help improve performance in key areas. These range from safety and risk management, to environmental impact, construction programming and project cost.

Fugro Aperio will also outline the benefits of integrating traditional direct methods, such as material sampling and physical testing, with more advanced imaging techniques and other non-destructive investigations.

The seminars take place on December 5 and 8 in Knightsbridge, London. Places are limited to facilitate discussion so early booking is advised. The seminar schedule is as follows:

Monday 5 December 2011
10am: ‘Construction Materials Testing’; 2pm: ‘Engineering Geophysics’
Thursday 8 December 2011
10am: ‘Heritage Structures’; 2pm ‘Rail Infrastructure’

See http://www.fugro-aperio.com for more details or call Alice Noyes on 0870 600 80 50.

Part of the Fugro group of companies, Cambridge-based Fugro Aperio is an established provider of geophysical and geotechnical investigations services for the near surface and built environment.

More follows on individual seminars……….

Construction Materials Testing seminar

Fugro Aperio will explain how an integrated approach to testing and investigation of construction materials can provide a better understanding of structures while reducing damage to fabric and minimising disruption to users.

The session covers the investigation of concrete, masonry and metals in civil and structural engineering applications. Specific attention will be paid to the assessment of defects (cracking, delamination, voiding, etc), corrosion, durability, moisture, as well as physical and chemical properties.

Rail Infrastructure seminar

This will cover latest developments in engineering geophysics and non-destructive investigation in providing a more complete understanding of the structure and condition of rail infrastructure.

The session will look at a range of rail applications including trackbed, buried utilities, bridges and tunnels, stations and related buildings, plus ground investigation, earthworks and geotechnics.

Heritage Structures seminar

Latest thinking and applications for the inspection and assessment of heritage structures will be reviewed.

Viable techniques range from visual inspection (including CCTV and remote visual inspection), material sampling and physical testing, and ground penetrating radar, to metal detection, ultrasonics and other acoustic methods, and infrared thermography.

Engineering Geophysics seminar

Developments in engineering geophysics are enabling more cost-effective and reliable site investigations, giving engineers a better understanding of subsurface conditions from depths of a few metres to more than a kilometre.

Fugro Aperio will discuss the advantages and limitations of a range of techniques for characterising cavities and voids, stratigraphy and structure, engineering properties, contamination and environment, and buried obstructions.
