Remember, remember the 4th of November for Swansea Fireworks Display

For the first time ever Swansea's annual Sparks in the Dark fireworks display will take place on Friday 4 November.

Oct. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Historically the 5th of November is associated with fireworks and the celebration of Guy Fawkes’ infamous attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament.  But this year the City and County of Swansea is throwing tradition on the bonfire and is holding its annual Sparks in the Dark fireworks display on Friday 4 November at St Helen’s rugby ground.

Frances Jenkins, Strategic Manager for Culture, Recreation & Tourism said, “For many years the Annual Fireworks Display has been held within St Helen’s Rugby Ground on 5th November, regardless of what day of the week the 5th happened to fall on.”

“However, this year the decision has been made to bring the fireworks display forward by a day in order to avoid any conflict with the Ospreys versus Scarlets rugby match taking place at the Liberty Stadium on the 5th November which is scheduled for an evening kick-off in front of a capacity crowd.”

“Both events would have occurred almost simultaneously with both attracting large numbers of people, many of whom would likely be travelling by car.  Holding the Annual Fireworks Display at the same time as the popular West Wales derby match would have added to traffic congestion and could have led to problems for event goers and other road users.”

Gates open at 5.30pm with entertainment beginning at 6.00pm with live music on stage from The Wave and Swansea Sound and special guests and a whole host of children’s entertainment throughout the night.  The evening will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display choreographed to music at 7.30pm.

Advanced tickets are priced at £15 for families (2 adults and up to 3 children), £4.50 standard, £3.50 concessions and £3 Passport to Leisure. Tickets on the night are £20 for families (2 adults and up to 3 children), £5.50 standard, £4.50 concessions and £3.50 Passport to Leisure.  Accompanied Under 3s go free.

Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.swansea.gov.uk/fireworks or by calling 01792 637300 during normal office hours.  Alternatively, tickets can be purchased in person from a number of venues including Swansea Tourist Information Centre, Mumbles Tourist Information Centre, Swansea Civic Centre and from any Active Swansea Leisure Centre.

The City and County of Swansea’s Sparks in the Dark fireworks display is supported by The Wave and Swansea Sound.
