Oct. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) is getting well deserved recognition as one of the top ranked city colleges in the nation! The picturesque campus which is located in the beautiful beach town of Santa Barbara, CA was recently ranked by Aspen Institute College Excellence Program as one of the nation’s top 120 community colleges. Selected by a committee of former community college presidents, respected researchers and policy experts, Aspen Institute chose SBCC for its high graduation rate, networking opportunities and education programs.
Lewis Marklin Mash can attest to the school’s top-quality professors, diverse, specialized class offerings and to the amazing opportunities it has provided to him throughout his career.
During his time at the school he was awarded with scholarships, won the prestigious Profant Foundation Scholarship for Music Composition in 2003 and took 1st place for the SOMA awards in Broadcast journalism for a PSA, which aired locally as a commercial for SBCC for almost 2 years. The PSA was then used as a national commercial for community colleges.
Additionally, the school provided him with several networking opportunities.  Lewis was able to secure a highly coveted internship for the LA Dodgers through the SBCC internship, as the first community college student to be accepted as a LA Dodgers Intern. There he gained experience in live sports production and stadium broadcast working as an editor, television graphic artist and camera utility for a world class internationally recognized professional baseball organization and had some fun, too! What boy doesn’t dream of someday working for a professional baseball team?
He was also offered the chance to intern at Santa Barbara’s KEYT TV in 2002, through SBCC, after attending a student field trip to the station with his Broadcast Journalism class headed by SOMA President and professor Guy Smith. This internship eventually led to Marklin being hired as a PA. During his time at KETY TV he was promoted to Producer and Senior Editor before leaving in 2008.
Having all this experience and skills, Marklin started to produce and host his own shows, and competed for two regional Emmy’s in 2008, for his local access show ADHDtv, that was syndicated nationally to 50 cities.
Now Marklin is quickly becoming a recognized figure in the Hollywood world. His newest show, Icon News, soon to be aired on major networks including Dish and Tuff TV, will air this fall. The show is the first of its kind using new media, Skype, to interview celebrities from the comfort of their homes, studios or wherever. His focus is on the celeb’s humanitarian causes. Guest’s include Eric Roberts, Lil J, Adam Lambert, Ross Mathews and many more.  Marklin works with over 15 charitable organizations and sits on the board for Conscious Music Entertainment, an organization that is raising awareness of children’s rights through positive music.
Marklin remembers his roots and is proud to prove that SBCC is deserving of all this attention. Of SBCC, Marklin says “I spent over three years at Santa Barbara City College, after earning my GED from the Marge Schott center.  My future was very uncertain and SBCC gave me a second opportunity to pursue my dreams and I will always be grateful.  I utilized student loans BOG Grant and scholarships to go to SBCC. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.  The education I received is second to none.  I have achieved goals that have far exceeded a community college expectation.  SBCC made me the first intern ever for a community college at Dodgers stadium.  I stood side by side with college students, who went to major universities and private colleges, and I outperformed them day after day, to become the head final cut editor for the 2004 season!  That’s enough proof for me.”  To follow Marklin or to get more details on Icon News and its schedule go to www.IconNews.US
