The T-Booneing of America

With North Dakota’s miracle still fresh, Boone Pickens appears, again, on CNBC downplaying the significance of the oil being discovered in America today by inaccurately stating we are almost 70% dependent on “dirty” foreign oil. Not the case...

Sept. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Oklahoma City, OK -- Waiting in the Denver airport between flights affords time to slow down and reflect.

Traveling back from North Dakota, the venue of the biggest oil boom in the last 40 years, brings to mind thoughts of the paradigm shift in American oil production. The level of excitement in a state that is lowering taxes, has almost no unemployment, and has 18,000 jobs to be filled  is unparalleled  in America today -- if not in the world.

The key word is OIL. With North Dakota’s miracle still fresh, Boone Pickens appears, again, on CNBC downplaying the significance of the oil being discovered in America today by inaccurately stating for the thousandth time that we are almost 70% dependent on “dirty” foreign oil “from our enemies.” The inconvenient truth, at least for Boone, is that we are now below 50% oil imports. In fact, since 2005 we have produced more oil in America each year than the year before. And who is the enemy? Canada is our biggest importer. Around 10% comes from the Middle East.  None of them are enemies. He is using inaccurate production information and trumped up fear to pass a subsidy through Congress for converting long haul trucks to natural gas - because he loves America so much...right? Could it have anything to do with the 100 million plus he has invested in CNG/LNG conversion?

I wonder if he is planning on converting one of his oil burning Gulf Stream jets to liquefied natural gas sometime soon. I hope not, because that bird won’t fly.

Sitting in a major American airport watching thousands of people board hundreds of flights, and thinking about all the air travel in America every day, puts an exclamation point on just how foolish it is to criticize and or ignore advances in American oil. In fact, 100% of the world air transportation and 86% of all transportation is fueled with oil. As much as the Obama Administration and T-Boone fantasize about some magical alternative, the use of millions of barrels of oil every day is the reality for the foreseeable future.

Any objective American energy patriot would advocate that America needs all of America’s energy, including natural gas, oil, coal, and alternatives like wind and solar, whenever they make sense in the market place. In fact, with the advances being made in oil production in the U.S., Canada, and South America coupled with using more of our vast natural gas supplies we can be “energy independent” within the Americas in the next decade.

For Boone to promote the piece of the energy puzzle he’s invested in, while proclaiming to be the oil and gas industry’s spokesman, is like a parent bragging on one child as the future while denigrating the other one as a dirty deadbeat.

I guess the only way to resolve this self-interested Boone-doggling is to get Boone in an oil deal. Perhaps then he will be the spokesman for American energy that all America needs.
