Tommy the Tomato teaches children the ABC's of good eating and better health.

(ST. PETERSBURG, Florida) -- Beating childhood obesity is as simple as ABC.

That's the message nutritionist and children's author Jay Holt has for you and your children in new free service called “Healthy Lunch Ideas” a guide to healthy lunch ideas for kids available at http://www.tommythetomato.com/healthy-lunch-ideas.php

According to federal government statistics, about one in three kids is obese or at least overweight. A lack of exercise is one culprit, but poor eating habits – and an over reliance on processed foods – is at the core of the problem, says Holt, who graduated from the University of Florida’s nutrition college.

“Tommy the Tomato” is in alignment with the first lady Michelle Obama.
First Lady Michelle Obama: “Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice”

“Tommy the Tomato” has formed a new free service to all parents called “Healthy Lunch Ideas.” The site features recipes for busy parents to ensure your children are eating healthy.  It’s the easiest way to give your kids the best start in life without spending hours cross checking menu options.

Studies show us that just eating a healthy lunch a day can help kids do better in school.

"You cannot learn when you are hungry or have a sugar buzz; and good nutrition helps kids in every aspect of their lives, Holt said.

"Kids don't really understand the finer points of nutrition, but they do understand fun, learning and what tastes good. “The Adventures of Tommy the Tomato” will introduce kids – and their parents -- to the benefits of food in a fun way that is relevant to their
lives.”

And teaching children about eating well is extra important because habits developed early in life will often shape a child’s future, Holt said.

Family practice physician Dr. Eric Taylor has read "Tommy the Tomato” and couldn’t agree more. "Children who become overweight in childhood will likely struggle with obesity for the duration of their adult lives.”

"Tommy the Tomato and his friends represent foods providing necessary vitamins and antioxidants that support important bodily functions. Many of these foods are also low in calories and high in fiber making them nutritious snacks. This book is designed not just for your children but for you as well: enjoy the lessons Tommy has to teach and put them into action for your kids and the adults in family, too!”

Teach your children to make healthy food choices for the rest of their life.
Make eating healthy fun and easy once and for all.
