Cal State L.A.’s business program is top 5 in California

College of Business and Economics makes the U.S. News list

Sept. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- For more than a decade, Cal State L.A.’s undergraduate business program has been listed among the nation’s best in U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” issue.

Moving up from #115 to #97, Cal State L.A. is among the top five public institutions in California that made the 2012 list.

To determine the rankings, U.S. News polled deans and senior faculty from undergraduate business programs last spring. Only programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business were considered. According to the U.S. News, the ranking can help prospective corporate executives and entrepreneurs find a school right for them.

Cal State L.A.’s College of Business and Economics offers undergraduate programs in accounting, economics and statistics, finance and law, information systems, management and marketing. The College has taken a leadership position in infusing the most powerful leading-edge, internet-enabled business application software throughout its curriculum. Graduates are well prepared to hold important positions in business, industry and governmental agencies.

Accounting is the third most popular undergraduate program at the University with more than 900 students (behind criminal justice and psychology); and management is fifth with more than 700 students. Overall, roughly 3,200 students—about 16 percent of Cal State L.A.’s enrollment—are majors in the College of Business and Economics.

Cal State L.A.’s business alumni include James A. Bell, executive vice president and chief financial officer, The Boeing Company; Robert W. Brown, president, University of West Los Angeles; Alan J. Fohrer, chairman and CEO, Southern California Edison; Marshall Geller, investment banker/senior managing partner, St. Cloud Capital LLC; and many other outstanding individuals.

According to the U.S. News, Cal State L.A.’s engineering undergraduate program is also ranked among the nation’s best. Within the western region, the University is ranked among the top in the categories of most international students (5 percent are international students), economic diversity (60% percent of CSULA undergraduates are receiving Pell grants) and ethnic diversity (.62 diversity index based on student-body ethnic backgrounds).
