Follow on Google News | Wine and Design’s Fifth Painting Party Franchise Scheduled to Open in Wake ForestNew location looking to duplicate Raleigh studio’s success with do-it-yourself painting concept
By: Wine and Design The town of Wake Forest began in 1832 when the North Carolina Baptist Convention purchased the 615-acre plantation of Dr. Calvin Jones with the intent of establishing an educational institution to train future ministers. Today, Wake Forest is experiencing robust population growth with close to 30,000 residents—with expectations of growing to 40,000. New subdivisions are being built, and the town’s boundaries now run from and into Franklin County. It’s this sustained growth that attracted Jenn Woodhull-Smith to the idea of opening up a Wine and Design franchise in Wake Forest. “I had attended a few classes at the Raleigh location and had a ton of fun,” explains Woodhull-Smith. “I noticed on the Wine and Design website that they were offering franchise opportunities, and I thought the ‘painting party concept’ would be well received in Wake Forest.” Wine and Design first opened its doors in Raleigh in April 2010 as the dream of longtime friends and business partners Emmy Preiss and Harriet Mills. The wine/painting party concept was a first in the Triangle and has proven so popular, that—in addition to Wake Forest—Preiss and Mills also have franchises operating in Wilmington, Wilson, Jamestown, Cary, Charlotte, and Asheville. Like the other studios, Wine and Design Wake Forest will offer two-hour painting classes starting at $35 per person. Wine and Design provides the canvas, cover-up, paints, paintbrushes, and corkscrew and attendees provide a beverage of his or her choosing. First- Jonathan and Jenn Woodhull-Smith met at North Carolina State University in 1999. After going their separate ways, the two reconnected eight years later through NC State’s MBA program. They married in Wake Forest in May 2009. Jonathan Woodhull-Smith has been in sales for seven years and always talked about owning a franchise. Jenn Woodhull-Smith worked in the corporate world for a few years and owned a marketing research company. She will be managing the daily operations of the studio and says she is “looking forward to bringing a fun experience to the residents of Wake Forest.” “Our goal for Wine and Design Wake Forest is to ensure that everyone involved has fun,” says Jenn Woodhull-Smith. “Our artists are very talented and are dedicated to making sure everyone is comfortable exploring their creativity.” Wine and Design Wake Forest is planning to mirror the format of its parent studio by offering date nights, hosting fundraisers, providing kid-friendly classes, and booking private parties. The studio is currently accepting registrations for October classes.
