The news in the technology realm today is filled with stories of battles between mega companies like Microsoft, Google, and Apple over patents, mainly mobile related and touch screen technology.

Aug. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- The “gold rush” of patent acquisitions is also the catalyst behind the Google purchase of Motorola Mobility, which Google obviously intends to use to further its empire on mobile devices.

The Microsoft-Skype deal that went down in the spring was also a deal for control of communication technology with Microsoft seeing big value in the VOIP technology of Skype.

Apple has been going after anyone and everyone that they think may be violating their patents, filing lawsuits on various companies such as HTC, Samsung, and Nokia.
Smartphone maker HTC Corp sued Apple on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, claiming infringement of three patents through Apple's sale of Macintosh computers, iPhones, iPads and other devices.

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Delaware seeks to halt Apple's importation and sale of infringing products in the United States. It also seeks compensatory damages, triple damages for willful infringement, and other remedies.

The lawsuit addresses the following patents:

- 7,765,414: Circuit and operating method for integrated interface of PDA and wireless communication system
- 7,672,219: Multipoint-to-point communication using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
- 7,417,944: Method for orderwire modulation

Samsung has also filed counter suits in response to the suits filed by Apple while Nokia recently settled their ongoing suit with Steve Jobs and company in June, announcing that it had settled its patent fight with Apple, which was about 1 1/2 years old. Nokia first sued Apple in October of 2009.

The settlement includes a one-time lump sum payment from Apple to Nokia, along with future royalties. Deutsche Bank analyst Kai Korschelt said in a research note that Nokia is likely to receive a $608 million payment in Q2.

While the future of some mobile devices may be up in the air this doesn’t concern smart mobile app developers like Smart Mouth Mobile due to their philosophy of developing mobile applications for cross platform functionality.

All of the applications developed by this innovative app developer and upcoming communications company work on the Apple iOS, Android and Blackberry as well as Nokia. Asked why they invested in cross platform development when others are happy with one, a company spokesperson stated, “We don’t believe in putting all of our eggs in one basket. If a certain operating system goes away due to litigation or company failure we are still okay, others may not be so lucky.”

Smart Mouth Mobile is not only developing cutting edge communications apps that will allow unlimited international calling, but the company is also releasing an innovative portable wifi hotspot that will support up to 20 devices such as your cellular phone, iPod Touch, iPad or laptop while remaining small enough to fit in your pocket!
