The Research Triangle Park Helps 320 Students Get Ready

NetApp, Biogen, Syngenta and Cisco among the many RTP companies providing the essential tools for future workforce during backpack and school supply drive.

Aug. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- The Research Triangle Park’s annual Back 2 School Backpack and School Supply Drive was a huge success. Through the generosity and support of many individuals and companies throughout RTP, the Community Outreach@rtp Program was able to provide 320 students with the essential tools they need to succeed this school year.

“I’m continually amazed by the generosity of RTP employees,” said James Lim, Director of @rtp Programs. “During tough economic times, it’s wonderful to know that so many people are still willing to give.”

The annual campaign invites employees in The Research Triangle Park (and others) to donate school supplies and backpacks just in time for the back to school rush.  Working in conjunction with Communities In Schools of Durham and Communities In Schools of Wake County, these much-needed supplies are distributed to students in both counties.

In addition to the completed backpacks, numerous additional supplies were provided to CIS of Wake County and CIS of Durham to help supplement their continued efforts year round.

The Research Triangle Park thanks the many donors, and in particular NetApp who raised $2600 to fund the purchasing of 160 backpacks and the Vicious Hogs Association, a local group of motorcycle enthusiasts, for collecting the backpacks and supplies to add another 63 backpacks.

Other significant contributions came from employees with Biogen Idec, Syngenta, RTI International, Cisco Systems, Inc., and incubator First Flight Venture Center and its tenants.
