Aug. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- I have been reading that the future of the PC is in jeopardy do to the evolution of cell phones and computer tablets….I have to agree that yes, it seems with the cloud and a tablet, that is about all you would need for the office and home office.  If all your work applications were in the cloud and you had a wireless key board, why would you need a PC or even a laptop? The only reason you would need a PC or laptop would be to have a bigger screen, which I can understand, especially for movie viewing, but with HDMI plug, you could plug into a large screen TV or monitor.  Some of the TV’s now have Bluetooth, so you would not even need a cable in some instances.
Last week I was 20 minutes late to get a 99 dollar HP tablet, which went on-sale after HP pulled the plug on their tablet. Not sure that was a good idea by HP, especially if they end up losing their PC business in the future. We are in the midst of a technical revolution and it is happening in real-time, there are going to be some big winners and big losers. Maybe Microsoft will scarf up a PC manufacturers product for a song and start wrapping their software inside MS laptops and desktops.
I can see it now; My laptop does not run the latest MS software? Oh, that is because you did not buy a MS computer. Ok, ya, that would be worst case scenario and probably won’t happen….yet (stranger things have happened). All I am saying is the technical landscape is changing rapidly, some of the Silicon  Valley companies will adapt and some will get caught sleeping.  This is normal evolutionary process and a test to see who is was proactive and who was caught napping. You do not have to be a big company to survive, just do not get so caught-up in the day to day, that you haven’t time to look around and see what is going on.
If you see that some of your employees seem to be spending too much time on facebook or reading the news, that is not necessarily a bad thing if they can alert you to a trend that could adversely affect your company simply because they got a whiff of it on a social media site. So you might have to file this under ‘taking the good with the bad’.
These technical revolutions seem to happen every 20 or so years here in the valley, the visionaries have already planned for this 3 or 4 years ago and are already creating products to meet the demand of a changing technological landscape and will be ready to start rolling out the new and more energy efficient hardware when time is ripe.
So the beat goes on,  lucky for me, my company saw this trend 5 years ago and started moving in the right direction, which was away from PC’s and into the Cloud with server technology.

This story is brought to you by Asset Conversion Services (ACS) http://www.assetcs.com  who knows the value of your used Sun Microsytems, IBM and HP server. ACS also is interested in your Cisco IT gear, we have been buying used Cisco equipment for 10 years and have been a vendor of Cisco’s as well. We understand the Cisco value-proposition and will continue to support Cisco products in the future.
Asset Conversion Services has seen a lot of changes since the 80’s and one of those changes was the evolution of Sun Microsystems. We were there when Sun could do no wrong (remember the TV ads at the super bowl). We were there when we thought Sun was going to be called Sunset, when they zigged when they should have zagged (see storage, Solaris, java et). ACS is excited to see Sun Microsystems make a comeback with the help of Oracle.
Sun Microsystems new line of product M4000 and M5000 are making a statement in the high risk/ high rewards server category. Excellent quality product, great value proposition and with Oracle you get seamless software integration.  Also, their new storage products like the Sun 7000 system are adding a new width and depth to Sun Microsystems product offerings.
ACS has seen an uptick in Sun business worldwide and we are adding new sun customers for the first time in years. ACS has always done of lot of Sun business by buying used Sun Microsystems servers. Now they are seeing a real up-tick in meeting the need for new Sun servers as well as add-ons like memory, cpu’s and disk drives.
Mike Brown was recently interviewed on CreateTV and said that he kept his faith that Sun would always make a comeback, although that faith was severely tested before Oracle bought them. He went on to say “if it were not for the fact that we had invested in both HP and IBM products (new and used), we would have been just a footnote in the large number of re-sellers and customers who went out of business during the implosion of 2002” Luckily for Asset Conversion Services, they have a visionary (Mike Brown) who is always a step ahead of the game when it comes to survival.
