After freelancing in New York for five years, he joined the BBC Radio’s Today program in 1986 and moved to Breakfast Time in 1988, before becoming a correspondent for BBC News. During this time, he covered a wide range of stories and reported from over thirty countries, including the United States, where he was the Washington correspondent from 1994 to 1998.
