Aug. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- ORLANDO, Fla. – Submissions for the third annual Federal Virtual Worlds Challenge (FVWC) are now being accepted by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory’s, Simulation and Training Technology Center (STTC).

This year the challenge offers two categories with two grand prizes.

The first focus area is “The Holodeck – Making it so”.  Entries for this category will focus on significant advancements toward reducing the gap between the player and the world or environment using low-cost materials; a way for the user to visualize the environment, navigate it or carry out tasks.  Entries must include a hardware list and instructions as the environment will be replicated in the STTC lab for evaluation.

The second category is “Engaging Learning”.  The focus of this area is demonstrations of learning activities in virtual environments that best encourage learners to play with learning material, truly engage them.  Entries should be examples of any learning tasks accessible in a virtual environment, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning tasks among others.

Challenge winners will receive cash prizes, potential follow-on work for the government and travel accommodations to the 2012 GameTech Conference in Orlando, FL to showcase their entries.  Entries deadline is Dec. 7, 2011 (submitters retain all intellectual property rights).
