As every artist knows, getting spotted can be difficult. Whether you’re an aspiring supermodel looking to make a name for yourself in an overcrowded industry, or an undiscovered musical genius bussing tables to make ends meet, catching the eyes of industry bigwigs is fast becoming the elusive white whale of many a starry-eyed artist. In the halcyon days of yore getting that lucky break could happen on a dime – a “chance” meeting at your quarry’s favorite restaurant while you just happened to be listening to the latest revision of your demo tape could potentially seal the deal; but with the current crop of celebrities we’ve witnessed the birth of a new phenomenon: The Social Networking Star.

Nowadays, social networking plays a big role in the art of self-promotion. Artists are finding new and untraditional ways to market their wares, even though most sites offer little help in the way of getting one's name out, and though some new artists have become sensations nearly overnight, there really is no clear-cut method for how to achieve the same results. Artispot aims at leveling the playing field.

“A recent stay in Atlanta fueled my obsession, you could say,” reminisces Artispot founder, Aaron Johnson. “I came across so many artists with good stuff, I mean really great material! But they lacked the platform or the resources to get exposure. As a web designer, I noticed a definite void in the way social networking sites deal with these artists. It’s pretty much catch-as-catch-can in a world where everybody’s got gloves.”

Most anyone can attest to this. While some social networks are known to offer band or musician versions of their profile pages, many artists are still left out in the cold in terms of promoting themselves. In fact, quite often, those proffered band pages are merely jumped up versions of the standard template. Artispot seeks to change that by offering supportive services built into a ready-made marketing solution. On the surface, Artispot web pages are an attractive delivery medium for the artist’s works, however, the back-end houses a marketing engine that transforms each web site into a virtual powerhouse in self-promotion.

“One of our main goals when we first started this project a couple of years ago, was to customize the social networking experience specifically to cater to artists of all types and genres. We decided the best way to do that was to create a standalone application and integrate social networking features that would be accessible across each iteration. What this means is that I can have a website at mydomain.com and yours might be at thisdomain.com and we’d both be accessing the same root features and information, but remain virtually unattached in every other respect.”

With the completion of “The Model Site”, Artispot has achieved just that, presenting a personalized and targeted approach to social networking for which the potential in terms of self-promotion far outweighs anything the computing world has seen to date.

Yes, gone may be the days of yore, but with Artispot, the future just got a little brighter.
