Aug. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Vaughn Groenewald battled a strong wind to claim a one-stroke lead in the first round of the Vodacom Origins of Golf KwaZulu-Natal at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club on Wednesday. He opened with a four-under-par 66 on the par-70 layout, with Justin Harding, his nearest challenger, following with a 67.
But while most of the field didn't exactly enjoy the Wild Coast wind, Groenewald used it to his advantage with his Golf Irons Sale. "When I went to bed before the first round I thought I had a great tee-off time at 7:10 and would get to the course and the weather would be perfect," he said.
"But when I got to the course and saw how the wind was blowing, I thought, 'Oh my goodness'. I just tried to keep the ball in play. From my first hole, the 10th, I hit the ball solid. I didn't get into trouble and putted well. I like the wind because I can ride it. I know where to hit it when it's blowing like this here. When there's wind you've got to hit the ball straight. It was tough, though." It is probably that Groenewald think his Golf Clubs Sale are stronger than the wind.
Groenewald is looking for his first win since 2006, when he won twice. "My golf is good at the moment and I feel confident. A win feels close. This year I've led the first round three times then messed it up a bit. But the more I get into these positions, the more confidence I get. At the moment I'm just thinking about good shots and there's nothing negative about my game."
Behind him, Harding also had reason to smile at the end of his round. Harding proved what a good player he can be in tough conditions when he won the final of this series at Oubaai last year. But he was more than a little nervous about returning  http://www.worldgolfsale.com/Golf-643-Ping-K15-Fairway-Wo... to the fairways following a six-week layoff because of injury. Harding had to have stitches after trying to climb over a gate and piercing his left arm on one of the spikes.
He was only given the go-ahead to resume golf last Friday, but you wouldn't have thought so watching his round which included just one bogey.
"I was nervous on the first tee, and coming down the stretch," he admitted, "but I wasn't concerned about the arm, because I'd played a few practice rounds already.”I'm pretty happy. This course is very hard in the wind, and there were some strange pin locations out there. But I played solid."
