Aug. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- It seems it’s not just women who take certain steps to look beautiful before heading off on a holiday, as a new poll by the UK’s fastest growing online independent travel agent has revealed that a high number of men are indulging in treatments like waxing, tanning and even pedicures before going away abroad.

The study was carried out by www.sunshine.co.uk, as part of research into the lengths that men go to before a holiday to make sure they are prepared for their trip and are looking their best. 1,788 men aged 21 and over took part in the poll, each of whom had been on holiday in the past 3 years.

When asked, ‘Before your last holiday, did you take any steps to make sure you were looking your best?’ almost a third, 31%, admitted that they did. These men were then asked to select, from a list of possible answers, what exactly they did before the holiday and were told to pick more than one if multiple answers applied.

The most common answers, according to the poll by sunshine.co.uk, were as follows:

•   Hair cut – 72%
•   Working out – 69%
•   Waxing body hair -  48%
•   Dieting – 35%
•   Sun beds – 19%
•   Hair colouring – 11%
•   Spray tan – 8%
•   Pedicure – 5%
•   Manicure – 3%
•   Facial – 1%

When asked why they took these steps before going on holiday, the majority, 61%, said they ‘wanted to look good’ for their trip, whilst 8% of those who had been in a beauty salon admitted it was so that they could ‘flirt with the beauty therapists’.

Of the men who said they hadn’t done anything to ensure they were looking their best for holiday, 22% felt it wasn’t ‘masculine’ to do so. The poll also found that 89% of the men who had taken steps to make sure they were looking best before their last holiday were ‘single’.

Chris Brown, co-founder of sunshine.co.uk, commented on the findings:

“I thought there might be the odd guy that admitted to going on a sun bed or having their hair coloured before a holiday, but I was really surprised to see how many men were doing this sort of thing and even going as far as having manicures and facials.

“There’s nothing wrong with taking care of yourself though and I think a lot of men make themselves look good to stand a better chance with the ladies on holiday! Many of them were single after all. It’s evidently not just women who end up spending a lot on beauty treatments before holiday!”
