This article is dedicated to a wonderful former elementary teacher named Maddie Natielo who lost her battle with cancer. She helped those in need and was truly a star teacher at number one and six schools in Lawrence. She will be missed.
I am truly proud to live in the five Towns. I am also truly proud to know many that are stars. In this article I will tell you about some of the recent stars from our area, kudos to each and every one of you.
During a recent race for the cure event at Lawrence high school, Cedarhurst cancer survivor Rose Mayo decided to try her luck at the Chinese auction. What did she win? Why a wig from Rodolfo Valentin. Her son Izzy Mayo, a special education teacher and key club adviser, heard that a student at Lawrence Middle School was in need of a wig. It was Cedarhurst resident “Jasmine Castaneda”. And I taught Jasmine how to read at number five school, small world.
So on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, I joined Rose, Izzy, Jasmine and Rodolfo Valentin to present Jasmine a fabulous wig. And fabulous it was, Rodolfo was incredible. The smile on Jasmine’s face was a mile wide. And personally it was a hairstyle I might want in the future. Rodolfo has promised to cut my hair in the future. I’ll let you see before and after pictures when I have courage to do so. Thank you Rodolfo and Rose for making Jasmine’s dream come true.
